Playback Theatre's founder and actors in Memphis Jul 28, 2011 - JONATHAN FOX is the founder of PLAYBACK THEATRE, an improvisational experience in which members of the audience tell personal stories, and witness performers act out those stories on the spot. Schools, human rights groups, organizations that help the homeless, and disaster recovery groups have all hosted Playback performances. Playback Theatre began in upstate New York in 1975, and now there are troupes all over the world, including Germany, Australia, Britain, Japan, and Brazil. We'll hear part of a performance of PLAYBACK MEMPHIS. That city struggles with racial and economic segregation, and earlier this year, Playback Memphis visited a community center that seeks to build bridges between different groups. We'll also hear interviews with Playback Memphis founder VIRGINIA MURPHY and troupe member BILL BAKER.

The fall is quickly approaching. Usually Synergy Playback takes a rest right about now, but not this summer. In July we had a great retreat and then switched gears to have an amazing time working with Chris Van Baeyer from Toronto, Canada doing a 2 day Playback extravanganza at at the ASCD conference.  It was a great time working with a real master of the theatre arts/education form.  It went so well we have been booked to come back in October.
